Dermal Fillers 101: Juvéderm, Restylane, RHA, Radiesse and Sculptra
Dermal fillers are injectable gels used to restore volume and refine facial contours. At SR Aesthetics in Paramus, NJ, treatments are performed by licensed injectors under the medical direction of Dr. Steven S. Moalemi, MD, FAAPMR. Here is a simple guide to the fillers we offer.
How dermal fillers work
As we age, the face gradually loses volume. Fillers are placed beneath the skin to add structure where it is needed, for example in the cheeks, lips, jawline or under-eye area. Different products have different textures and are chosen for specific areas.
The fillers we use
- Juvéderm and Restylane: hyaluronic acid fillers used for lips, cheeks and lines.
- RHA: a hyaluronic acid filler designed for areas of the face that move a lot.
- Radiesse: a calcium-based filler often used for structure and contour.
- Sculptra: a collagen stimulator that works gradually over a series of sessions.
What to expect at your appointment
Your visit starts with a consultation to discuss your goals and review your health history. Your injector will recommend a product and a plan, mark the treatment areas and may use a numbing cream. Most appointments are relatively quick. Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur and usually settles within days. Results and longevity vary by product and by person.
Natural-looking planning
Good filler work is about balance. We look at your whole face rather than a single feature, and we may suggest combining fillers with wrinkle relaxers, Morpheus8 or skincare treatments for a more complete plan.
